About Light It Up Smoke Shop
People who used to smoke a pack of cigarettes a day usually consume 12-15ml of e-liquid per week with regular atomizers. Some of the clearomizers, cartomizers, and other low resistance atomizing devices burn a little more liquid so you might need more depending on the type of electronic cigarette system you are using.
The option to refill cartridges with e-liquid has become a strong selling point for ecig brands that allow this. Not only are e-liquids cheaper than pre-filled cartomizers but they also offer the flexibility to create personalized flavors. The flavor of e-liquids varies from supplier to supplier. The coffee you like from one brand may not taste like the java offered by another. If you are trying out a new brand, order in small bottles until you find the flavors that you like. You don’t want to be stuck with a big batch of e-liquid that you won’t be able to use. Stock up on drip tips to ensure easy refilling. Aluminum drip tips are classy looking and more durable. Rubber drip tips are soft on the teeth that you can even leave them on at the mouth-end of your ecig. Trustworthy e-liquid manufacturers will always print a manufacture date and expiration date on the bottle. Most e-liquids expire within two years. You must also check for a list of ingredients on the label.
E-liquid is the term often used in the electronic cigarette industry to refer to the nicotine solution inside the replaceable cartridge or refillable tank system. Instead of burning tobacco like cigarettes do, ecigs are built with an atomizer that turns the e-liquid into water vapor. This process is what makes e-cigarettes odorless, smokeless and relatively safer to inhale than cigar smoke. The e-liquid is a very important component of vaping because it holds the flavoring and nicotine. High-quality e-liquids deliver a realistic smoking experience while cheap ones usually taste synthetic and leave a nasty streak in the mouth. E-liquids, also called smoke juice or e-juice, are sold in childproof bottles with a special drop tip for easy refilling. They come in all kinds of flavors and are available with or without nicotine.
Nicotine: Electronic cigarettes are deemed safer than analogs because they do not contain tobacco and the thousands of toxic chemicals associated with cigarettes. Most e-liquids, however, are mixed with nicotine to satisfy the smoker’s craving. E-liquids contain varying amounts of nicotine, often measured in mg/ml or simply ml. The nicotine strength you need depends on what you currently smoke. High strength (18-24mg), medium strength (11-16mg) and low strength (0-6mg) are popular selections. If you smoke reds, you might like 18-24mg e-liquids. If you smoke lights, 11-16mg is usually ideal. If you smoke ultra-lights, 6-11mg is a pretty good choice. I would suggest that you start in the middle range and move up or down according to preference. If you feel nauseous, light-headed, dizzy, or develop a headache, move down one nicotine level or switch to a VG-based e-liquid. Depending on strength, nicotine makes up 0% to 5.4% of the e-liquid. Manufacturers of e-liquid use pharmaceutical-grade pure nicotine in their products.
Aside from the nicotine kick, ecigs try to imitate the taste of cigarettes. E-liquids are mixed with special additives to reproduce the flavor of popular tobacco and menthol brands and enable smokers to make the transition as seamless as possible. Apart from mint and barley, food-based flavors are also introduced to make vaping even more fun. You can now choose from around 250 different flavors ranging from coffee, chocolate, and vanilla to fruit, spice, candy, and soda spiked e-liquids.
While the nicotine and flavoring are both equally important in making a good e-liquid recipe, the smoke-like vapor that ecigs produce cannot be made possible without a diluent base. The most common diluent compounds used in e-liquids are propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG). Pharmaceutical-grade propylene glycol is generally considered safe for human consumption by the FDA. It is an ingredient in many food items that we eat and is also found in toothpaste and medicines. Vegetable glycerin is a plant based substance used in many products that moisturize and clean the skin and is made from coconut or palm oil. E-liquids are usually 80-90% diluents. This base is composed of 100% VG or a mix with PG. Common ratios are 100% VG, 50/50 PG/VG, and 80/20 PG/VG. More PG means thicker clouds of vapor. Because VG is thicker than PG, it is often mixed with PG to be more soluble or to give it more consistency. Distilled water is also sometimes added to dilute the e-liquid.
Vegetable glycerin is a thick, heavy, and sweet-tasting liquid. It gives your smokeless cigarette a very pleasant sweet flavor, and creates large amounts of vapor. It also creates an incredibly smooth throat hit that many users highly appreciate. Vegetable glycerin is derived from, you guessed it, vegetables. Therefore it is considered completely natural and safe. VG is also used as a sweetener and in many cosmetic products. Vegetable glycerin imparts a slightly sweet flavor –however it does not contain sugar, and is metabolized by the body in a different manner than sugar.
Propylene glycol, by comparison, is very thin, but even sweeter than VG. PG is known to produce a great throat hit, and that is why some people favor it in their smokeless cigarettes. Something to consider with PG is that it has a higher rate of sensitivity, and can cause reactions that are allergic in nature in some users. It is generally recognized as being safe by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which is why it can be found in a host of healthcare products from skincare lotions to body products and as a preservative in foods. However, a small percentage of people, about 2%, have negative allergic reactions to PG where they experience shortness of breath or dryness of the throat.
The 70/30 mix contains the ideal measure of both types of e-liquid (70% PG/30% VG), allowing you to experience the best of each. This optimal ratio combines the great throat hit and sweetness of PG e-liquid with the thickness that VG e-liquids offer, along with tons of vapor production.
